Client Stories

We also have former clients who volunteer for us, the two testimonials below are from former clients who volunteer as Kitchen Support Workers.

Volunteer 1:

Why did you volunteer for Cope?

I like to work, I like to keep busy and as I was finding it extremely difficult to find work, I decided to look for an opportunity to volunteer. As I am an ex resident of the Fairgreen Hostel I was delighted to be given the opportunity to give something back to a service which helped me in the past.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Being able to learn the trade of working in a kitchen under a professional chef and hopefully will put me in a better position in time to secure permanent paid work.

What do you feel you contribute to the service you are volunteering in?

I reduce the amount of work the chef has to do so he can concentrate on his cooking.

Volunteer 2:

Why did you volunteer for Cope?

As I have used homeless services provided by Cope Galway, I felt it would be nice to repay in some small way the support I had received from the Fairgreen Hostel.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I enjoy the work in the kitchen and also the of being kept busy, it gives me a purpose two days a week as I am finding it difficult to find work and boredom is a problem for me.

What do you feel you contribute to the service you are volunteering in?

By helping in the kitchen it allows the chef to concentrate on making and serving out the food.
